Dreaming of Getaways, Vacations, & Retreats

Holidays on the boat were cozy and the marina had just the right amount of

colorful lights both onshore and on crafts. Making plans for a daytime cruise we

considered Seattle, Whidbey Island and Port Townsend. Nature called

us onto a mirror smooth Puget Sound.

Binoculars at the ready we were treated to a nature lovers feast. We enjoyed

everything from porpoises feeding on bait fish, diving waterfowl to Eagles and

otters munching shellfish. The quiet, solitude and sheer magic of raw

beauty left us rejuvenated and inspired.

We appreciated the luxury of spending several days planning voyages for 2023.

Cruising the Hood Canal, San Juan Islands, Gulf islands and nearby Seattle area is

easily accomplished on a navigational computer screen.

In a motor vessel capable of easily cruising 8-12 knots with modest fuel usage lots

of destinations are within easy access. Whether we cruise for several days, a few

hours or just do an overnight getaway the scenery is always changing.

What does changing scenery really mean? We love the freedom and out of the

box feelings that come from being on anchor in a private anchorage. The boat

moves with the wind, tides and currents. Glancing out of the large windows lining

our salon, the view constantly shifts. Read a book, look up and you have turned

the page in multiple ways .

Our New Years intention was a mid winter retreat. We plan to meet friends we

made while cruising next month. The retreat, this time not on our boat, but a month in

Mexico.

To achieve the balance and care we offer people who visit us, we in turn

practice receiving what we model. We booked February a bit to boost our Vitamin D, a bit for a romantic getaway and generally for multiple overnights rolled into a

vacation escape. Jamila reminds me though, that she will be on a working vacation given her service to personal coaching via zoom.

Returning in March we will again throw off dock lines. We look forward to

welcoming the migrating birds, longer daylight hours and readying the boat for

April overnights and cruises. The beauty of Spring in the Puget Sound is visiting empty

anchorages and the mountain backdrops covered in snow. Mt. Baker, Mt.

Rainier, the Olympics, the Cascades - all photo opportunities waiting to be

appreciated.
